Jess Burgess

Artistic & Executive Director

Jess is your go-to person for collaborative projects and questions regarding the overall organization. She oversees the artistic and executive management for Dogtown Dance Theatre. 

She is also Founder and Co-Artistic Director of RVA Dance Collective, the company in residence at Dogtown Dance Theatre.


LaWanda S. Raines

Program Manager

LaWanda Raines earned a B.FA in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has choreographed Children of Eden (Manchester High School), pieces for Latin Ballet of Virginia productions (2004-2014), and Langston is My Man (African American Repertory Company). Her adjudicated works presented at Black College Dance Exchange and Richmond Dance Festival. Flamenco. LaWanda works as a teaching artist, and has a M.F.A in Dance and Creative Process with a Certificate in Dance Production from St. Mary’s College, California. 

LaWanda handles all of Dogtown's mainstage events and performances. If you are interested in self producing work or have a question regarding submissions to an upcoming festival she's your go-to person!

Lesley Schott

Social Media & Marketing Coordinator

Lesley is an all-around versatile individual who loves a challenge 

She is the social media and marketing for dog town to keep you in the loop for upcoming classes and schedule programs. She is also an animal lover and takes care of client's pooches and kitties in the Richmond area.

Kaylin Corbin

Technical Coordinator

After serving Dogtown through the VCU work-study program, Kaylin established herself as as a valuable asset to Dogtown and now currently serves as Dogtown's technical coordinator. 


Presently, Kaylin balances her responsibilities at Dogtown with her studies at VCU. She is hoping to pursue a Stage Management Major while at VCU and hopes to remain in theater after college.

Desmin Taylor

Stage Manager

Desmin is Dogtown's Stage Manager and responsible for running the show behind the scenes! Desmin is also a company dancer with RVA Dance Collective as well as a seasoned dance educator in RVA. Check out his teaching schedule at Dogtown on our workshop page!

Taylor Bonadies

Videographer & Front Desk Associate

Taylor is Dogtown's videographer for social media and also helps with front desk check in. Taylor creates performance works and is part-time faculty for the Governor's School for the Arts Department of Dance in Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated from VCU in Spring 2020 receiving a B.F.A. in Dance and Choreography.

Jenna Beardsley

Front Desk Associate

Jenna is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher who just graduated in May from VCU with their BFA in Dance & Choreography. Jenna works on the weekends at the front desk! Say hello the next time you are registered to come and take a class with us!

Marian Zakaib

Front Desk Associate

In January 2020,  Marian was an intern for Jess and worked alongside her learning the day to day operation of Dogtown. Currently, she is working at the front desk on Tuesday's and Thursday's. Marian has been a dancer for 19 years now practicing ballet, tap, jazz, and pointe. She also just graduated from Randolph Macon College in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts Management with an emphasis in Studio Art, and minors in Accounting and Art History.

Kassandra Rosas

Front Desk Associate

Kassandra is another one of our friendly front desk associates! You will see her on weekends and Tuesdays. Kassandra is originally from Northern VA. She currently lives in Richmond and is a Junior at Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Psychology.

Julianne Kannan

Front Desk Associate

Julianne moved back to the Richmond area in the spring of 2020 and is very excited to be part of the Dogtown community as a volunteer/work exchange for studio time! She graduated from George Mason School of Dance in 2018. Dogtown has been a home for Julianne since 2016.
